Here at Badoo, we check in regularly with our community to hear both what’s working for you, and what we can change to make your dating experience safer, healthier, and more enjoyable. What’s clear from our most recent member research*: it can feel difficult to swipe and match with confidence when you can’t be sure exactly who you’re talking to online.
Daters surveyed say the number one issue affecting their dating confidence was not knowing if the person they’re talking to is who they say they are, with almost half (46%) of women, in particular, citing this as a concern.
This fear is, in many cases, justified by experience. More than one third (37%) of daters we surveyed say they’ve met people through dating apps who turned out to have lied about themselves, or who didn’t look like their profile pictures.
To help with this, Bumble Inc. has launched Deception Detector™, harnessing artificial intelligence (A.I.) to weed out fake, spam, or scam profiles on our app. In our tests so far, our Deception Detector™ machine learning model has supported in blocking 95% of these accounts automatically. Profiles deemed likely to be a scam by Deception Detector™ will have to go through a verification process to ensure they’re authentic, or could be removed from Badoo altogether.

The data was collected between 20.09.23 - 05.10.23.
