Heart to Heart: Dating Stories From Badoo

What is Heart to Heart?

Heart to Heart is a series designed to celebrate and showcase our community. It’s where our members get to tell their stories; the good, the bad, the serious, the one night things, the heartbreaks, and the epiphanies—stories people will connect with, no matter the outcome.

Below we have a collection of stories from, Badoo members, each offering up their unique dating stories.

“I don't want one-night stands. I’m at a different stage in my life. I want to meet someone.”

Lately, I've said that I don't want one-night stands. I'm at a different stage in my life and I want to meet someone, so I’ve put it in my profile: "Please, no one-night stands".

Five years ago, I was living in Paris and I met a boy. We just had a fling, nothing serious. We met up two or three times, but then I got a boyfriend. Three years later, I went to Amsterdam to finish university. I was walking down the street, and I bumped into him! He was on holiday in Amsterdam, so we went for a coffee and caught up. We're still in touch, and he's coming to see me next week! Let's see what happens.

“We lived near each other for ten years and I never had the courage to talk to him…”

I don't think Peter and I would have met if it hadn't been for Badoo. We lived near each other for almost ten years, and I never had the courage to talk to him. It was when I saw him on the dating app that I got the courage to send him a message.

The first time we met in person was at a BBQ that my brother was having. So I invited him to come to the BBQ as well, and he ended up meeting my family and half my group of friends on our first date! I wasn't looking for anything serious and I always loved being single. But it was a good surprise.

“If I want to ask someone out, I’ll go ahead and do it…you shouldn’t say ‘Right, I’m going to wait a certain number of weeks.’ Go with how you feel.”

The key moment for me, in deciding to go out on a date with someone, really comes when we have a good chat. If we don't have to force the conversation, then there’s a really good feeling.

If I want to invite someone out, I'll go ahead and do it. You shouldn't say "Right, I'm going to wait a certain number of weeks and then we can go on a date." I don't think you should put yourself under pressure and I think you should really go with how you feel. It could be the next day, you never know. Sometimes you get on so well with a person, that it just clicks straight away. So you have to go for it.

“It's a lot more awkward to go up to a woman in a bar because you don't know how they'll react or if they are queer themselves.”

Being a queer woman, I think dating apps are really important. They’ve really helped me. I think people are more open on their profiles about what they're looking for. A lot of people I know use dating apps just to make friends as well, which isn’t what I feel it was like four years ago – the last time I was dating.

It's a lot more awkward to go up to a woman in a bar because you just you don't really know how they'll react or if they're queer themselves. Whereas [dating apps] take away that first level of awkwardness. You know straight away that, yes, they are queer, and yes, they do actually find you attractive.
