Over the course of 22 years, Marine and Christopher had never crossed paths – despite the fact they had mutual friends and connections through work. That all changed when Christopher came across Marine on Badoo in 2014. “I made the first move by liking Marine's profile and sending her a lame message (I had to start somewhere),” says Christopher.
On paper, the pair had nothing in common. Back then, Christopher described himself as a “geek” and a “homebody” who was still living with his parents, while an independent Marine had her own apartment, a french bulldog, and a passion for motorcycles and rock music. “I asked her on a date on October 12, 2014 (shortly after exchanging our first messages) to have a drink at a pub in the centre of Bourges,” says Christopher. “I was told that my job at a local craft brewery at the time made me more charming…”
After enjoying a couple of beers, they decided to go to a creperie. “It's there that we made our first memory – Marine had ordered a goat cheese crepe and it was filled with bread. We still talk about the famous “bread-filled crepe” today,” says Christopher. At the end of the evening, Christopher walked Marine back to her car, where he was introduced to her puppy, Guizmo. While Guizmo wasn’t too sure about Christopher (he barked in the car while they said goodnight), Marine was.
Two days after their first date, Christopher invited Marine to the park. He brought fresh apple juice and the two talked for hours before deciding to go to the movies. Because it was getting late, they only had the option of seeing one film – an intense action movie - not quite the romantic vibe they were going for. Still, “between 2 action scenes, I made the first move and tried to kiss Marine. She didn’t reject me, to my great pleasure, and that was the day our relationship began.” The couple has now been together for seven years.
Marine and Christopher went on their first holiday together in October 2014 – though Christopher admits it wasn’t his best-planned trip. “Our first holiday as a couple was in Alsace for Christmas. I hadn’t paid attention to the altitude, and the roads hadn’t been cleared from the snow, so the drive there was pretty scary. Then, since we were caught out by the snow, we were stuck up there for 2 days, so we couldn't visit the Christmas markets as planned.” Even so, the couple say this first holiday remains the most magical for them.
Marine, Christopher (and Guizmo) moved into an apartment together in 2016, and after several years of living together with “moments of madness, love and arguments,” they bought their first house in the country in 2019. Christopher says they even survived lockdown together “wonderfully well.” On June 26th 2021, Marine and Christopher welcomed baby Emile into their family.
“At the end of the day, we can say that it’s thanks to Badoo that Marine and I are able to live this beautiful life, because there is very little chance that we would have met without the app. Thank you, Badoo.”
Love, Christopher, Marine, Emile and Guizmo.
