Badoo Adds New “Selfie” Security Feature for Female Users

LONDON and NEW YORK, July 11, 2016 - Badoo, the world’s largest dating network, is continuing its mission to put female users’ experience at the forefront of online dating by announcing today the release of "Selfie Request" - a new feature update intended to help eliminate catfishing and make online dating safer.

The new selfie feature allows women to request a photo from a male user after they have received an initial message to confirm that their potential match is genuine and using a real photo. From there, a male user can either send the requested selfie or decline. According to Pew Research Center, 54 percent of online daters have felt that someone misrepresented themselves on their profile. This new feature update from Badoo is intended to help avoid this recurring problem by putting the online safety of females first.

“Badoo has been around for 10 years, so we have the industry’s deepest insights and experience. We are continuously aiming to solve major challenges in the dating space around various issues such as safety and security. We’ve spoken to many women to find out what they really want from a dating platform and the two things that repeatedly surface as top priorities are safety and efficiency. Features such as photo verification, social accounts and now selfie request, only help eradicate these issues,” says Badoo spokesperson and dating expert Joey Hadfield.

In addition to photo verification released in April, which already has over 100,000 users verifying their profiles every day, Badoo has also introduced the option for users to request and share their verified social media accounts within the platform. This allows females more control on what they share about their personal lives online.

“Having these safety features, especially the new addition of selfie requests, means I can have more faith and trust in who I’m speaking to online. A busy work schedule coupled with trying to meet a potential mate is extremely hard in today’s world, so making sure potential matches are 100% the real deal means whoever is using the app is not wasting their time or being catfished. Badoo gives me a greater level of comfort in knowing that the person I’m talking to is really the person in the picture”, says lifestyle blogger and Badoo user Duda Castro.

With 318 million users  in over 190 countries, and over 400,000 new people signing up for a Badoo experience each day, the company is the fastest growing dating platform in the world. Badoo’s selfie and social media security announcements follow the recent launch of the application’s PhotoVerification  and the new Videos in profile which helps users ensure that there’s only real people on the platform.
