What To Put In A Dating App Bio

Research has found that your profile bio is one of the most important factors when it comes to online dating.

While selfies are important, it turns out that people are more likely to swipe right on you if your bio describes what you're looking for, what you’re like as a person, and has something that helps you stand out. It's a no brainer really - by stating who you are and what you want, you're more likely to find someone else who is looking for the same things.

If you're suffering from a case of writer’s block, and need some serious inspiration for your bio, read on for our top tips.

How To Write A Good Dating App Bio:

Give People Something To Open With

Initiating a brilliant conversation isn’t always easy, so give your match something to reference in their first message. An empty bio gives them nothing to work with, nothing to latch onto. Including something funny or insightful will let them know a little bit more about who you are.

Anything can help flesh your profile out. It could be mentioning the fact you have a dog, your favourite genre of movies, or that you prefer salty popcorn over sweet. By giving your match an insight into your personality, you should hopefully get them talking.

Badoo also has questions which you can answer and that show up on your profile. We know talking about yourself isn’t always something that comes naturally to people, so see them as a helping hand.

Include What You’re Looking For

Dating apps are great because you can be totally honest about what you’re looking for - be it the love of your life, a casual date, or someone just for the night. However, this of course requires you to be respectfully upfront, and anticipate that other people may be looking for something different to yourself.

It's so important to be clear  about what your desired end goal is. It stops long-term issues and confusion. No one likes having the ‘what are we’ conversation, but if you're both on the same page right from the start, then you can save yourselves any confusion or uncertainty.

Don’t be afraid to express yourself! By stating exactly who you are and what you want will help others to do the same. Even if you both have different interests and different lifestyles, you may share the same values and this could be your connection. Be open minded, but be clear if you don’t see progression with someone. This will avoid wasting anyone’s time and feelings getting hurt.

Capture Your Personality

A bio is more than just what you say, it’s also how you say it. Trying to capture your entire personality is just a few lines is impossible, but you can include a spark of what makes you different to everyone else.

Think about what you want people to know about you, but also what you want them to be able to tell about you.

Everyone loves their family, friends and their pets. Avoid overused cliches, and think about your more niche traits that could help you stand out (there are over 450 million users on Badoo after all). Do you spend your weekends juggling flame throwers on a unicycle? Put that in your bio and watch your inbox pop off. Trust us.

Be Funny

It’s easier said than done to just ‘be funny.’ But keeping your bio positive, confident and light-hearted can really help with getting matches. Humour lets other people know what you’re like IRL, and can immediately make you appear more attractive.

Don’t take things too seriously, poke fun at yourself if you’re happy to do that, and crack a joke where you can (but don’t go overboard - not everything needs comic relief).

If you’re still stuck after all this, remember Badoo’s profile Qs are there to help you build out your profile. There are even answers you can select from, so download the app now and give them a try.
