We have been operating in the dating market for over 12 years and as technology advances, there are new barriers to overcome and expectations that must be met, especially when it comes to the safety of our users.
Staying Safe On Dating Apps
We, like all other dating platforms - are designed for the 18+ community, where adults can find new connections and meaningful relationships. Despite our specific age regulations, occasionally underage individuals have succeeded in gaining access to this adult-only world.
Our number one priority is to protect young and vulnerable people from any form of abuse or inappropriate misconduct. We have a multitude of safety features in place; the first and the most effective is our photo verification.
All new joiners are asked to verify their profile by taking a selfie, whilst copying a specific gesture. This is then reviewed by one of Badoo’s 5,000 moderators who flag any individuals that might be deemed underage for further verification. In the event of this happening, we ask users to provide additional identification to prove their age. If a user fails to verify their profile, they are suspended until they do so.
As well as our photo verification, our system traces certain phrases used regarding age which is then brought to the attention of our moderators to review. For example, if two users are chatting and one says “I’m actually 17”, this user will automatically be flagged for further investigation and potentially removed from the app.
In addition to this we also have Facebook and phone number verification, and we actively encourage our community to report any underage users to our moderation team here.
We want it to be clear that we will never tolerate any misconduct or abuse on our app. It is the reason we have such a multitude of safety features and safeguarding for anyone who appears underage.
Our dedicated team are continuously working on new ways to completely abolish any and all underage users within our app.
