In the Aragua state, about 100 kilometers west of Caracas, lies Maracay - the Garden City. This attractive place of wide, tree-filled avenues and beautiful gardens boasts the Plaza Bolívar, the country's largest square at over 500 meters long. It's a classic example of the exquisiteness of finding nature in the middle of a city. On the border of Maracay is the Parque Nacional Henri Pittier, the most important park in the country, with stunning beaches, forests and dark jungles. To the east is the Tovar Colonia, founded by German immigrants in 1840. The park has the highest diversity of birds in the world, some of them exclusive to this ecosystem.
