These Badoo App Features Help Keep You Safe

At Badoo, keeping our community safe has always been central to our mission: our members’ safety is first, second, and always. We’ve developed features to help keep you safe, both physically and emotionally, while you’re meeting new people on the Badoo app. Check these out—and head to our Safety Centre for practical tips, tools, guides, support, and more.

Deception Detector

More than one third (37%) of daters we surveyed say they’ve met people through dating apps who turned out to have lied about themselves, or who didn’t look like their profile pictures. To help with this, Badoo launched Deception Detector™, harnessing artificial intelligence (A.I.) to weed out fake, spam, or scam profiles on our app.

Of those accounts identified as spam/scam profiles, Bumble Inc.’s testing showed that Deception Detector™ supported in blocking 95% of these accounts automatically. This automated and AI-based technology is used in conjunction with dedicated human support to prioritise a safe and empowering community. Profiles deemed likely to be a scam by Deception Detector™ will have to go through a verification process to ensure they’re authentic, or could be removed from Badoo altogether.

Photo Verification

As well as Deception Detector™, Badoo uses Photo Verification to help protect you from fake profiles. When you choose to get verified, you’ll be prompted with an example of a random photo pose. Take a selfie mimicking that pose, and send it using the simple step-by-step process outlined in the app. When your photo has been verified, you’ll get a blue tick on your profile to let everyone know that you’re the person in your photos! You can also filter other daters by profiles with verified photos. This means we’ll only show you people who have verified their pictures.

Private Detector

Badoo’s Private Detector works by using A.I. to automatically blur a potential nude image shared within a chat. It’ll then notify you that you’ve been sent something that’s been detected as inappropriate; it’s up to you to decide whether to view or block the image. (You can also easily report the image to Badoo. We don’t tolerate any bad behaviour, including sending unsolicited obscene photos!)

We’re always looking to help keep our community protected and comfortable, which includes shielding our members from harassment via the sending of lewd images.

Selfie Request

Chatting with a match, and feeling the vibe—but notice they don’t have a blue tick? If you’re a woman using Badoo, and you’ve exchanged more than 10 messages with a man who isn’t already photo verified, they’ll automatically receive a request to send you a selfie in the chat. This’ll help you feel more confident you aren’t chatting with a catfish.

Screenshot Block

Our Screenshot Block feature uses technology to protect Badoo members from having their privacy invaded—or their images and conversations shared—without consent. On Android, the software will stop anyone from being able to screenshot a Badoo chat or save images and recordings. On iOS, users will see a warning message to encourage them to reconsider their actions when they attempt to take a screenshot within the Badoo app.

Unmatch / Block & Report

If anyone on Badoo makes you feel uncomfortable, harasses you, or exhibits threatening behaviour, you should Unmatch them. In these situations, you can also Block and Report them so that the person can be investigated by our team. Once you’ve Unmatched someone, you won't see their profile in your connections list and they won't be able to find your profile or message you again. The same goes for Block and Report: that member won’t be able to see you or send you a message.

But there’s an added layer of safety when you Block and Report a match: a member of our support team will review your report and take action based on Badoo’s Community Guidelines, which can include a warning or a ban from the app. No matter what, Badoo will never tell the person in question that it was you who reported them. In critical cases, Badoo will get back to you to provide advice and support.

Remember, keeping safe is not limited to using the Badoo app. When meeting your match IRL, make sure you’re making your own way there, meeting in a public place, and keeping your personal items safe.
