Badoo and sister app Bumble are teaming up with Chayn to provide Bloom, a complimentary online trauma support program to members who report sexual assault or relationship abuse.
A global survey created by Chayn sent to our members highlighted that emotional abuse was most commonly experienced by respondents.* The findings also showed that abuse was happening almost equally online and in person. More than one in three respondents (35%) said they didn’t report their experience because they didn't think it would achieve anything, and 15% of respondents thought they wouldn't be believed.
At Badoo, we want to do our part to support survivors of sexual assault and abuse, and we encourage our members to report any safety concerns. Our dedicated 'safety' team will review all concerns and take action as appropriate
What is Bloom?
Bloom is a free, web-based support service run by Chayn. It’s designed for anyone who has experienced sexual harrassment, assault, abuse or violence in their initimate relationships or is simply looking for education on creating healthy relationships. The courses such as Dating, Boundaries & Relationships, Healing from Sexual Trauma and Society, Patriarchy & Sexual Trauma are packed with tailored information, guidance, everyday tools, and comforting words to cope with traumatic events. Their program involves learning, reflecting, and processing how what we’ve been through may have affected us - all in a safe and empowering space. To guarantee privacy and safety, every account created on Bloom is anonymous and your information is never linked to your Badoo account.
What is Chayn?
Chayn is a charity that supports survivors of gender-based violence. Bloom was launched in 2020 as a response to the pandemic and the knowledge that not only were many survivors trapped inside with abusers, but those recovering from assault were left stranded from their usual therapy and support systems.
What kind of support can I access?
Badoo members can now access Bloom’s library of courses and resources created by survivors and trauma-informed therapists. Bloom also includes a 1:1 web chat feature with the Chayn team, so you have support while you’re working through the courses. This year Bloom released a brand new offering, ‘Notes from Bloom’, the option to sign up for twice-weekly WhatsApp messages of positive affirmation and guidance to encourage your healing journey. We will continue to improve our offering based on feedback from survivors.
How do I access Bloom support?
You can sign up for the Bloom program here. Currently, these resources are available in English, Spanish, French, Hindi and Portuguese to Badoo’s global communities. German will be launched later in 2023.
Bloom is run by Chayn, a nonprofit addressing gender-based violence by creating intersectional resources online. Their services are made for survivors, by survivors.
*According to a recent survey commissioned by Bumble of 5,081 Americans (18+).
